Investing in Italian real estate had always been a dream for me and my wife. There are just too many options to choose from in terms of location, and we had to do a whole lot of research before making an investment. It took a while but we ended up buying the perfect house in Calabria.

Calabria is relatively lesser known than the northern regions of Italy. Prices for Real Estate in Calabria Italy , while on the rise, are still lower than the north.

Calabria, also known as the ‘toe’ of Italy, has a distinct quality about it in my opinion. The region is made up of virgin beaches and mountains on the other side.

Old, almost abandoned Italian villages nestled among the mountains, is not an uncommon sight. The working population of this region, it seems, has moved to northern Italy for work.

The reason that we decided to invest in this region is that while it is definitely being developed at a rapid rate, Calabria still has its own distinct charm and character. It is almost as if Calabria is in a different age, steeped in traditional Italian culture.

The Italian government as well as the EU are pouring large amounts of funds into developing the infrastructure of Calabria and bringing it at a par with the other more tourist orientated parts of the country.
